Course Duration: 41 Minutes | Difficulty Level: 2
This piece is a fingerstyle funk workout that is suitable for players who are comfortable with the basic mechanics of the technique. This study was written in the style of legendary bassist Jaco Pastorius and was inspired by a piece called ‘The Chicken’. Although originally written by Pee Wee Ellis, this track became one of Jaco’s signature tunes. Whilst the majority of Jaco’s work is very advanced, this study piece has been written to act as an introduction to his style of playing. Key elements of his technique such as the use of ghost notes, syncopation and raking are all used here, but are presented in a manner that will be digestible for less experienced players.
